I fly Southwest a lot. I used to think they were just being nice, but
their old weight limit was 70 pounds. And I'd always packed things
thinking it was 50.

On a recent trip, the bike and suitcase weighed 42 pounds when I left.
On the way back I'd picked up a few "road kill" items and it now
weighed 52.9 pounds. I took out the lock and got it down to about 52
at which point the agent just said "That's okay."
