Glad you asked. My son and I loaded toured from Chama to Antonito back
around 1983. The ascent to the pass was relatively gradual starting from
Chama to the summit of the passes. The descent down into the Conejos River
Valley on the way to Antonito had one terrifyingly steep section. We crept
down it with several stops to cool the brakes. I'm sure we would have been
walking up it the whole way. Unless you are particularly fit, I would
recommend taking the train from Antonito and cycling back.

RE: La Manga and Cumbres Passes in Colorado
Does anyone have a source for information about bicycling this
stretch between Antonito, CO and Chama, NM? I'd especially like to
see a graph of the elevation gain, and information about riding
