The point is: you can take a folding bike places where you cannot 
take a non-folding bike.
That is: trains, planes, busses.
Sometimes not at all, and sometimes not as easily.

In 1995 I sold my car and didn't buy a new one.
I just wanted to see if I could do without a car for a year.
Have been carless ever since.
