Using soapy water to ease tire installation has been a
standard practice in tire shops since I was a teenager
-- and that was a long time ago. I keep a bottle of
soap/water, 1 teaspoon of dishwasher detergent to
eight ounces of water to ease installation of tires
and to moisten the valve stem when inflating tires. It
preserves the life the of rubber seal in the pressure
head of the pump when instaling the head on the valve
stem. Have done that for years. A very small bottle in
your tool bag will aid that process on the road. I
just moisten my finger with the solution and apply it
where needed.
