I recently completed the Seattle International Randonneurs 600K fall brevet
on my Pocket Rocket. I've posted my story here:
http://thedailyrider.wordpress.com/
I didn't include too many particulars about the bike. It's one of the
earlier models from the mid 90s that I purchased used from Friday, repainted
to racing green. It also has the mono-downtube similar to today's models.
But, the rear stays do not go all the way to the seat tube. Instead they
merge into two single large stays at the rear brake. Unlike current models
which use a collar, mine has seat post binder bolt ears brazed atop the seat
mast and takes a 26.8 seat post.
Tires are Schwalbe Stelvio 451s on Alex 32x rims and Ultegra 9-speed hubs.
Gearing was 36-48-58 rings, 11-32 9x cassette, and bar end shifters. I used
a Carradice seat bag for my gear, supported by a Bagman rack, and a Brooks
Flyer sprung saddle. I had no handling problems whatsoever with the bag off
the saddle! I posted the same finishing time I'd expect on my full size
randonneur bike.
Thanks,
