Big-wheel or little-wheel tubes to stretch nicely around the Travelcase?

Good idea too to keep it from opening unintentionally if there is a
problem with the latch.

I can second this idea. I traveled once from Massachusetts to Indiana
and back with David Wilson, and *MIT mechanical engineering
professor* no less, whose car-top rack consisted of a wodden frame
and about 50 old bicycle inner tubes stretched every which way. This
contraptioncarried our bikes faultlessly!

Fond memory too, this trip, to the 1984 International Human Powered
speed Competition, was my first date with my wife.

And along with others at this event, I earned the unusual distinction
of having ridden a bicycle around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,
though I didn't compete.
