Oh man, if I could turn back time...I was a 20 year
old soldier in 1980, stationed in Worms, and more
interested in beer and frauleins. I bet the cycling
is/was great! The scenery sure was. Hope to go back
(and cycle) someday. During my second tour, in (West)
Berlin in the early 90's, I was into mountain biking,
and remember a friend and I riding to Potsdam, after
travel restrictions had been lifted. We passed a
Soviet military installation, and the soldiers gaped
at us, they'd probably never seen a mountain bike, nor
cycling-specific clothing.
