Hi Richard,
First congratulations on the NWT I know you will enjoy it. As far as the
initial unpacking and putting together is concerned, I would advise the
following:

1. Pick a quiet area where you will be disturbed. Read the directions.

2. Once you open the box or suitcase, put all the small parts in one
location. I put mine in the top of the opened Carlton case.

3. Then unfold the frame and put the rear wheel, chain and front wheel on
and believe me everything else will flow real easy as long as you take your
time and follow their directions. 

The key is to take your time and the more you do it you will develop a
method which will work real well for you.

Regarding protecting the frame and stem when folding, BF supplies frame
protectors which you will see in the packed bike.

The NWT is an easy bike to fold and unfold.
