Good Morning
I've been riding my new Pocket Rocket to / from work and getting home after dark. Originally I had considered a Schmidt dynohub wheel with light as much of my commute is on very, very dark roads. I live in Mountain View, California, which is infested with lightless bicycle riders making it a fairly hazardous place to drive after sundown. (Most of the riders also wear dark clothing which makes it really difficult to see them).
Several week ago my son, who had business in England, presented me with a Lupine Betty LED light which he picked up from Wiggle Distributing in Portsmouth. A nice gift! The Betty is incredible and puts out 1500 lumens, running for just over 3 hours on a single 4.5 amp charge. The light fastened perfectly to the Pocket Rocket drop bar and the small battery pack fastened to the seatpost near the bottom -- a very neat arrangement.
The light is so bright that it makes my car headlights seem dim by comparison. The Lupine has several power settings with over 6 hours available on the low -- which provides as much light as a Niterider MiNewt on it's high setting!
Gretna Bikes in Pennsylvania is the U.S. supplier and Lupine lights can be found in most European countries (the VAT kicks it up the price a bit). The Lupine Betty and associated lights are expensive but, quite honestly, riding 20 miles in the dark makes you appreciate a very bright light -- and it fits PERFECTLY on the Pocket Rocket.
