You might try a helmet mirror instead. They bounce around less, so a
smaller mirror gives a clearer image. I like the ones made by Chuck
Harris and sold by Hub-Bub Cycles.

You can put a toestrap around the wheel and main tube, or around the
brake lever and handlebar to keep the brake acctuated.
