[Yak] Cities to ride in....

I'm just back from San Francisco which has stunning views, lots of marked
bike routes, the Golden Gate Bridge, bike-friendly ferries, and many ways to
avoid the killer hills.  I was astonished to see hundreds and hundreds of
tourists on rental bikes along the Embarcadero and around the Bay.  SFO is a
favorite with foreign tourists, perhaps that explains the cycling.  

 

A year ago I did two days of riding in Chicago.  It is flat, has a wonderful
lakefront with miles of trails.  The city is on a giant grid so navigating
is simple and small, side streets always are available as alternatives to
the major thoroughfares.  There is a lovely ring of parks in the city and
many revived and reviving neighborhoods - and some that are not.  Highly
recommended in warm weather.
