I saw one just like that on ebay. I hate to hear that people are so intolerant that they can't stand to listen to someone else's music. I wouldn't want to do it all the time but jeeezzz, most people don't ride with others all the time.

I couldn't ride without listening to music, but I keep it low and ride alone alot and I can always hear cars and such so no problemo there.

When I ride with others I don't listen to music, I'm there to chat etc with my friends. Seems silly to listen to music while riding with others. Once I had a friend that had a speaker on a group ride and it was really fun. Not my type of music and I don't think it was his either as it wasn't his mp3 player but it was techno and we all starting riding faster to the music. REally funny.

Good topic anyway.

I can't remember if anyone has mentioned this, but if you have an iPod, there is the iH85 speaker that should fit in your bottle cage.  I don't have one so I can't speak to how good the speaker actually is.

I have this item

which I really adore (not sure of availability
now).

Greatly prefer external speakers to
earbuds/headphones.

Generally, it can be heard in 'lite' traffic.  And
over the roar of crickets.  Reception is another issue.

As for the law, I was stopped one time, and the officer
said its illegal to wear "headphones".  I said "well what about headPHONE?"
(I only had one ear covered!).  He didn't show up in
court.

I think its a really bad idea to cover your ears while
riding/driving/piloting a vehicle.  Speakers are the way to
go.

Now, in the context of multitudes sporting speaker radio/mp3s
in crowded situations ... I will have to give consideration when the time
comes.   As of today, I feel my speaker-radio is slightly
better as a warning to peds than the sometimes-obnoxious Ding-Ding of a bike
bell.

Has anyone had a ticket while wearing earphones on a bike
  ?
