[Yak] Mudguards

On the way home from the Alpine Classic in Victoria Australia I had my Crusoe on the roof of the car for the trip home - half way home I saw something fly off in the rear view mirror, it turned out to be half of my rear Bike Friday mudguard. The mudguard snapped clean off at the end of the bracket. Less then 12 months old and much less than that on the bike.

Anyone else experienced this?

After advice you many of you on this email chat, I converted to mudguards and have not looked back. Now I'll have to get another set. Any suggestions on brands. I tend to take the Crusoe long distances (did Paris Brest Paris 2011 on it) so would be looking for something fairly light, but robust. Usually 1.5 or 1.3 slicks on the bike.

Yes, I know the bike should have been folded in the car, but the car was full!!
